Contents

Vacations and holidays are awesome times, but the thought that crosses most people’s minds is expensive. Great vacations are associated with high costs, but this shouldn’t always be the case. Wouldn’t it be great to take a vacation while avoiding the pricey expenditures, like flights and accommodation? Just take out your RV and have a great July in Potlatch.

July Destination for an RV

New and used RVs are the answer to affordable vacations you will never forget. America offers endless attractions, so you can spend as much time as you want to explore it from coast to coast. The vast majority of these attractions are accessible by land, like Potlatch State Park, our RV destination of the month for July. The Waterfront Resort at Potlatch is an RV-friendly resort located in Skokomish, Washington, and boasts of all you need for a perfect RV vacation.

Getting to the Waterfront Resort

The best thing about RV vacations is that the fun starts immediately. As soon as you load your RV, go through your checklist and hit the road, you start enjoying the experience. Not to say you won’t hit the occasional traffic jam, but driving through the great American highways and landscapes is a great way to start any trip.

The Waterfront Resort sits in the middle of Skokomish, just north of the Potlatch State Park. Scenic views can be seen throughout the Northwest, so driving to the resort is already a very pleasant sensation. Once you arrive you’ll be welcomed by the imposing Hood Canal, where you can indulge in activities such as swimming, boating, hiking, and fishing

Natural Attractions and Endless Adventures

Potlatch will not disappoint nature enthusiasts as it offers an array of natural wonders and activities. Lakes, mountains, and forests offer everything you can images — from easy walks to demanding bike trails. The three major natural attractions are Lake Cushman, Hood Canal, and the Olympic National Park.

Lake Cushman

Lake Cushman is the poster child for inspiring, Northwestern landscapes. The majestic lake spreads over 4,010 acres of crystal-clear waters and offers fun activities for singles, couples and families alike. Lake Cushman is located about a half an hour away from the resort, making it perfect for a day trip. It’s home to 9 miles of walking trails, which are also mountain-bike friendly.

Hood Canal

Hood Canal is located about 40 miles from the Waterfront Resort, but the scenic landscapes make the trip worthwhile. Hood Canal is technically a fjord and is one of the four major basins that form Puget Sound.

The most amazing part of Hood Canal is the natural diversity. Reptiles, amphibians, birds, and large mammals are all found in or around the waters of Hood Canal. Even orcas are known to frequently visit the canal, giving you a once in a lifetime chance to see them in their natural habitat.

Olympic National Park

The Waterfront Resort at Potlatch is located just outside of the Olympic National Park, giving visitors easy access to all the natural activities and attractions. The Olympic Park was opened in 1938 and is home to more than 60 miles of coastline. Huge boulders adorn the shorelines, which are surrounded by the iconic mountain-filled northwest landscapes. Glacier covered mountain tops, namely Mount Olympus, to add the finishing touches.

The western end of the Olympic National Park is covered with temperate rainforests, which are considered the wettest part of mainland United States. In addition, the park also boasts of pacific coastlines, dry forests, and alpine areas. This results in one of the most varied ecosystems and biodiversity in all of the United States.

Fishing and Wildlife

With every RV destination comes fishing. Fishing is one of Hood Canal’s most popular activities, mainly because of the game variety. Fishing enthusiasts have the choice of either staying on the coastline and finding a nice quiet spot or hiring a boat to take them on a fishing trip. Just make sure you abide by the Skokomish Fishing Regulations before you start reeling in fish!

Restaurants and Entertainment

There’s a handful of restaurants around the Waterfront Resort. Small local cafes will give you a great taste of northwestern-inspired dishes, and many are located in the middle of a lush forest or sunny coast.

The Lucky Dog Casino

If you are looking for a good night out, then The Lucky Dog Casino is for you. Enjoy energetic evenings and fine cocktails in one of Potlatch’s premier establishments. A great place to visit on their special event nights like Prime Rib Saturday and Steak & Shrimp Scampi Sundays.

RV Sites and Accommodation Available!

The best part about the Waterfront Resort is that it offers accommodation for any type of traveler. You can enjoy the comfort of your own RV by parking up on one of the beachfront sites or choose to reserve a room. The available accommodations range from common rooms, double rooms, and deluxe cabins to cover all your needs.

Potlatch is undoubtedly an exciting Northwest RV destination. Stay tuned for more information and tips about the best RV vacations.
