October RV Destination of the Month: Nehalem Bay

Fall has officially arrived. The leaves are turning vibrant orange, yellow and red, and the weather is perfect for a beautiful RV road trip. As is tradition here at Kirkland RV, we picked the top RV vacation destination for the month, and this time our goal was to include those gorgeous fall colors. In order to help you experience the perfect October RV vacation, we chose a destination that takes you and your RV through the best driving route for autumn.

Nehalem Bay State Park

First, let’s talk about the destination itself. Located along the North Oregon coast, Nehalem Bay State Park is essentially a 4 mile-long beach. Vast stretches of sand dunes guide campers from the forest to the ocean, with wildlife and hiking opportunities everywhere you turn. Bring a kayak or fishing supplies for an adventure on the bay. If you’re a horse enthusiast, the park offers horse campsites and miles of trail and beach to ride. For everyone else, bring a backpack and tour the wide range of hiking and biking trails along the coast and through the shore line.

The campground at Nehalem Bay includes 265 electrical sites with water, an RV dump station, a meeting hall, and even an airport camp with fly-in sites. Whether you’re bringing a camper or a diesel pusher, the campgrounds will accommodate you and your family perfectly, and in October you won’t have to compete for the best sites.

Road Tripping Through Washington and Oregon

If you live in the greater Seattle area, we picked this location to give you a beautiful drive. On your way to Nehalem Bay State Park, you will have the opportunity to take Highway 101 and pass through gorgeous areas such as Willapa National Wildlife Refuge and Cannon Beach. Also, for those who feel like taking their time along the way, Circle Creek RV Resort is open year round for RV travelers.

Autumn in the Pacific Northwest is a beautiful time. By choosing Nehalem Bay as our October RV destination of the month, we hope to inspire adventures from Kirkland to the Oregon Coast—and everything in between. Take a couple days to see Mount Rainier. Check out the tumultuous Washington coast at Cape Disappointment before relaxing at Nehalem Bay. The crowds of summer are starting to disappear, which means you have a wide open road ahead, full of awe and relaxation.
